AI Access Badge

A small static badge that states your crawler policy in one line — for example that AI training crawlers are blocked while search engines and AI retrieval stay allowed. Pick a variant, copy the snippet. No account, no tracking, no build step.

Why a badge? Because "we blocked AI training" is a claim that is worth stating where people can see it — on your own site. It also makes the policy auditable: anyone can open your robots.txt and check it. Ours is at /robots.txt, and the same rule set is explained in the robots.txt AI access checker.

Hosted files live under /assets/badges/. The data-URI version works even offline and needs no request to our server.

How to read these badges, and how not to

  • They state policy, not results. "AI training: blocked" means the site disallows the documented training crawlers in its robots.txt. It is a declaration anyone can verify, not a guarantee about what every crawler does.
  • Retrieval and training are different. Blocking training does not remove a site from live AI answers; blocking retrieval does. A site can honestly carry both badges.
  • Verifiable beats decorative. The badge is only worth placing if the policy behind it is real. Check the checker first.

Placement

Most sites put it in the footer, next to a privacy or status link. It is 20 pixels high and a few kilobytes, and it sends no cookie and no referrer data beyond what any image request sends. We publish the same badge source in our own reports when we describe our policy.

Frequently asked questions

Do you track badge impressions?

No. The SVGs are static files. Our server logs the request like any image request, and that is all; there is no script, no cookie, and no per-site identifier.

May I change the wording?

The source is plain SVG. Edit the two text labels and the colours however you like; the badges above are examples, not a licence term.

What if I allow training crawlers?

Then say so. "AI training: allowed" is an honest badge too, and there is nothing wrong with publishing it. The point is that the choice should be deliberate and visible.
